Sarah Justine Bailey is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter/producer/ mega Swiftie from Cleveland, Ohio in the United States. Sarah is an emerging artist with a background in audio engineering. She started singing and writing songs at a very young age and finding any way to record them when her dad would bring home microphones and free audio recording software. She started uploading YouTube videos and singing covers that she recorded and engineered herself in her teen years.
In 2018, she started her official music career with the release of her first single, “Reckless”. Sarah continued to work on her craft until completely making the switch to writing, producing, and engineering all of her own music herself at home. Since then, she has put out music on a regular basis that manages to thrill and delight fans—both old and new with different melodies, musical styles, and emotional lyrical journeys. Sarah started gaining national recognition after global superstar Taylor Swift, Sarah’s biggest inspiration, sent her a message after seeing her family’s holiday lights display including Taylor’s song, “Christmas Tree Farm”. Now working as a Resident Rocker at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, Sarah is always working as hard as she can to fine-tune her craft as a singer-songwriter every day as she continues on her musical career. Her debut album “13” is out now!

LYRICS:

Verse 1
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this again
Can you please tell me why it didn’t work out?
I’m tired of being a part of a percent
I thought I was supposed to have made it by now

Chorus
I don’t want what they think I’m supposed to do
Cause’ the ones who give in are probably miserable
The sky won’t fall through
Cause’ the rain seems to always falls where it’s Supposed to

Verse 2
What happened to the ones I thought I called my friends?
Now they seemingly just mix into the crowd
I’ve got to stop taking pity when things end
And cry with the ones who always stuck around

Bridge
I wish I could tell that little girl
That she’s growing up in a f*cked up world
And you’ll lose yourself and come undone
Till you’re back to the place where you begun

And I’m so happy to see her again
A nostalgic feeling I can’t explain
Cause’ she’s been with me all these years
It’s my old heart and I’m so glad she’s here

The sky won’t fall through
Cause’ the rain seems to always fall where it’s
Supposed to

I wish I could tell that little girl
That she’s growing up in a f*cked up world
And you’ll lose yourself and come undone
Till you’re back to the place where you begun

Tell us what your fans are saying about your music.
My fans have been giving the best feedback about my music and my album. They love each song so much and how well they can relate it to their own lives. Every person has a different favorite song.

Tell us the factors you consider when writing a song.
I consider the story I want to tell, the feelings I want the song to give off, the melody in which a fan can love or remember, and the lyrics.

Discuss the production of the song.
I made the production for this song about a year before ever writing the lyrics for it. I wanted a simple but danceable beat that could also make the listener feel a sense of nostalgia, which is what the song is talking about in a way as well.

Tell us your best mood to create a song.
I love having a certain feeling elevated when writing a song. Whether it’s happiness, sadness, or anger, I need that feeling to be prominent in my mind at the moment to write the song.

Tell us how you approach songwriting.
I approach writing a song by thinking about the story I am trying to tell and how to tell it best. Sometimes, I’ll start with a melody first, or lyrics, or the music. Then I fill in the blanks.

Tell us your opinion on blending genres or experimenting with sound.
I think all music comes from something already made and inspiration anyways, so blending genres and experimenting is extremely important in creating new sounds.

Elaborate on what compels you to go into music.
I’ve been singing and writing songs since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved the idea of telling a story of a feeling that people can relate to.

Discuss how you record your vocals.
I record my vocals at home in my studio by myself.

Tell us the software you use mostly for recording.
I use Ableton Live Suite for producing and Pro Tools for recording.

Elaborate on the song.
I wrote this song about feeling the need to have a certain timeline for your life and milestones you need to complete in order. I believe that whatever happens and what makes you happy is what will happen in your life. It will all turn out the way it is supposed to and it’s important to not compare your timeline to anyone else’s.

Elaborate on your artist’s name and the title of the album.
‘13’ is the name of the album because that has forever been my lucky number because my birthday falls on the 13th of September. I made the album have 13 tracks and it was released on the 13th of May to concur with the theme of the number.
