Originally from Warwickshire, Ivy Ash grew up in the Midlands before moving to London in her late teens and France in her early 20s. She may still be young, but Ivy Ash has plenty of experiences to recount and stories to tell. “I think I must have been at least 22 before it felt like life wasn’t one big uphill struggle. Even so, I value every experience I’ve been through, good or bad because it’s made me who I am today.” As a supporter of positive mental health, Ivy started to make music as a way of expressing her struggles and overcoming anxiety. “I hope my music helps others to find their true voice and confidence. Even if my work resonates with just one person, it makes it all worthwhile.”
Following the dazzling support of her debut single “Oops”, Ivy Ash is back with her second single “Rain Again.” Ivy explains, “This song is all about breaking bad habits and finding yourself.” This exhilarating floor-filler focuses on reflection and self-empowerment, accompanied by an energetic and playful music video. She continues, “It’s a bitter-sweet song, like crying and dancing at the same time, but with a glimmer of hope. Every cloud has a silver lining. That pretty much summarizes the way I communicate through music.”
Over the past two years, Ivy has been working intensively on her craft and has gained various achievements as a songwriter, including international radio play and BBC Music Introducing’s ‘Tune of the Week.’ In early 2020, Ivy proudly gained ‘The Transmission Fund’ from Help Musicians UK to attend a Norwegian Songwriting Camp; and by 2021, Ivy had secured music funding from Arts Council England.

LYRICS:

Let it rain
Here comes the rain, yeah

I got dealt the right cards at the wrong time
And I
I failed to hold to what is truly mine
But I know I’ll figure it out
Whether you’re right or wrong
I got this on my own

So take your chances
No need to ever look back No
No
You gotta find your moment
Make it last
Make it last

Here comes the rain again
You know you wanna win
You need to figure it out
Here comes the rain again
Once all the bets are in, can you get out?

Not everybody’s been through
What you been through
All I know you gotta be true
You know that you
You’ll make it through
No need to ever look back

No No

You gotta find your moment Make it last
Make it last

Here comes the rain again
You know you wanna win
You need to figure it out
Here comes the rain again
Once all the bets are in, can you get out?

Let it rain
Let it pour
Move your body, drop it
Pick it up some more

Let it rain Let it pour

Move your body, drop it
Pick it up some more

Here comes the rain again
You know you wanna win
You need to figure it out
Here comes the rain again
Once all the bets are in
Can you get out?

Here comes the rain again
You know you wanna win
You need to figure it out
Here comes the rain again
Once all the bets are in
Can you get out?

Discuss the recording of this song.
This song has been in process for the last year. It started during summer 2020 and I’ve taken my time to work on the lyrics to convey the message of what I want to say, against the backdrop of upbeat, danceable music.

Discuss the lyrics of this song.
Lyrically, ‘Rain Again’ focuses on breaking bad habits and finding yourself. As with any piece of music though, I’m sure you can interpret it in many ways when listening.

Discuss the melody of the song.
The melody was the first part of my songwriting process with ‘Rain Again.’ The pre-chorus “take your chances, no need to ever look back” kept playing over and over in my head. Once I’d decided the melody was a keeper, I then started to channel what I was trying to say by refining the lyrics.

Explain your songwriting process.
It always varies. For ‘Rain Again,’ it was melody, lyrics, and music.

Tell us what makes this song unique.
This song is unique because it’s immensely happy, upbeat, and it combines various music styles. What I love about this track is the afterthought that catches you out, after a few times of singing along you can think hold up…these lyrics aren’t all that happy-go-lucky as I originally thought. It’s a bittersweet journey.

Tell us how you develop your sound.
Working on my sound has taken a long time, but I feel that my music is now instantly recognizable as IVY ASH. I try not to think too much about what I’m making, my sound and music-making come naturally. I guess I’d describe my material as bittersweet, like crying and dancing at the same time, but with a glimmer of hope. Every cloud has a silver lining. That pretty much summarizes the way I communicate through music.

Explain your music style.
Electro-pop, pop, dance.

Tell us the factors you consider in a good song.
The main thing for me is relatability. I write about what I know or have experienced…
